The Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford is planning to apply for permission to keep the Courtyard Theatre open for an additional two years, until 2012.

The Courtyard Theatre which seats 1,000 spectators, was opened in 2006 on the site of The Other Place (the RSC's small studio theatre) whilst the main Royal Shakespeare Theatre is being rebuilt.

It was originally planned to reinstate the 200-seater The Other Place after the new RSC building is completed in 2010

Work on the new Royal Shakespeare Theatre continues and is reportedly on time.
