The 2009 Birmingham Christmas Lights Switch-on will be on Saturday 14th Nov. Promising to be the biggest and best Birmingham Christmas Lights Switch-on ever, Millennium Point will rock to a succession of great bands from 2pm. With acts including the Sugababes, JLS, Pixie Lott, Noisettes and Chipmunk, this free event is not to be missed. 

The Christmas Lights Switch-on at 7.30pm will be accompanied by a spectacular fireworks display that will light up the skies over Millennium Point. And if that wasn't enough, there will also be a funfair and plenty of food stalls.

We have just found out through local radio station BRMB that tonight's Birmingham Christmas Lights Switch on events has been cancelled for health and safety reasons.

5,000 people were expected to attend the outdoor concert at Millennium Point starting at 2pm in the run up to the lights switch on, but up to 27,000 turned up which overwhelmed the area. There were a number of injuries as the crowds surged into the protective barriers. Organisers and police decided to cancel the event in the interests of safety for all in the area.

The Birmingham Christmas Lights Switch-on has been re-scheduled to 4.15pm on Sunday 15th November as part of the Birmingham Christmas Parade
