HMS Belfast closed due to gangway collapse
29 November 2011
Popular central London attraction HMS Belfast has been closed due to the collapse of a gangway earlier today.
Permanently docked on the River Thames, the retired warship is accessed by a large gangway and it is this gangway which sheared and collapsed. Two contractors who were working on the gangway suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital as a precaution. No one else was involved and visitors and staff on HMS Belfast at the time were safely taken by boat from the warship to London Bridge Pier.
HMS Belfast is currently closed and an investigation is under way as to the cause of the gangway collapse.
