Discussion boards aren't always as intuitive and user friendly as we would wish, so here's a few pointers to help you rapidly get the most out of this part of the site.  We'll be adding to this area regularly, so please let us know if you're pulling your hair out trying to get to grips with something on the boards or you have a tip to share.

From the main Discussion Boards page, look down the left hand side and you'll see a box titled "Active". Click on this and you'll be taken to a page which lists all the posts which have been active in the last few days.

Easy when you know where to look...but can be utterly bewildering if you don't  

When composing a new post or replying to one, you'll see various icons above the text box you're typing in. You will also notice that the two chain icons (these are the ones for inserting or modifying links) are greyed out.

To insert a link, simply highlight any text you have typed that you want to be the "anchor text" for the link and then you'll find that the link icons are now available to use.

Clicking the inset/edit link will open up a small dialogue box asking you for the link's url (the web page address you are linking to), whether you want the page to open in the same window or a new tab, and a title for the page you are linking to.
