    With Easter falling about as early as is possible*, school holidays are all over the place this year. Some schools have broken up whilst some allowed their kids home for Good Friday and Easter Monday, with classes resuming on Tue, and the holiday proper starting later on in April.

    The net effect of this is that the school hols are spread out over around 4 weeks this year.

    For many this is good news, resulting in less crowded attractions and shorter queues or slightly cheaper holiday deals than is usually the case during the normal break. Big Smile

    But for any families with kids in different schools, this can be a right pain in the butt. If the schools have different holiday dates, it can be a real stretch for parents trying to cover the whole period. At best, this may mean that the family can't get away as a family or they need to spend far more on childcare. Angry

    According to the good 'ol Beeb, at least one organisation, leading childcare charity the Daycare Trust, is calling for the government to co-ordinate school holidays more closely.

    * Moley's enlightening facts:

    1. Easter, somewhat bizarrely, doesn't fall on the same day every year. In fact Easter day is on the Sunday after the full moon that follows the first day of Spring. This year, the First day of Spring was Thu 20th March, the full moon was on Fri 21st and so Easter Sunday was on the 23rd.

    2. Easter this year was the earliest since 1917

    3. The next time Easter will be this early will apparently be in about 220 years...so we probably don't need to worry too much about making plans for extended school hols... Smile
