What were these parents thinking?!!!
A 9 year old girl in New Zealand named Talula Does the Hula from Hawaii (!!!!!) by her parents has been made a temporary ward of court by a judge so that she could change the truly awful name her parents gave her.
Judge Rob Murfitt criticised the parents of the girl, saying that the name embarrassed her and exposed her to teasing an humiliation. The judge also criticised the growing trend of giving kids unusual names amongst some parents in NZ.
Names such as Stallion, Year Detroit, Fish and Chips (for twins), Twisty Poi and Keenan got Lucy were all names that had been barred by registration officials.
Unfortunately for the kids concerned, many ridiculous names have been allowed, including Benson and Hedges (twins again), Midnight Chardonnay, Number 16 Bus Shelter.[Moley's comment - surely this is taking the naming of children after the place where they were conceived way, way, way too far?!]
NZ laws prohibit names that would cause offence or that are longer than 100 characters, and officials often try to talk parents out of particularly unusual choices that could cause embarrassment.
