The National Association of Head Teachers is warning that a shortage of Head Teachers in England and Wales could become a crisis unless urgent action is taken.
Of the Head Teacher posts advertised this year, 32% of primary schools, 37% of special schools and 21% of secondary schools remain unfilled.
It is claimed that on average, only three candidates are being interviewed for any Head Teacher job, and that re-advertising is commonplace.
Temporary Heads are filling the vacant posts until permanent replacements are found.
