"A Matter of Loaf and Death" will see hugely popular cartoon characters Wallace and Gromit return to the BBC over Christmas with their latest half hour adventure.

Reuniting Oscar-winning animator Nick Park with Bob Baker who co-wrote The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave, "A Matter of Life and Death" will mark the welcome return of Wallace and Gromit who last appeared in the 2005 film, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

If the description of the film is anything to go by, Nic Park is on top form and good fun for the whole family is in store. The film is described as "a classic 'who-doughnut' mystery... in the tradition of master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock"

    Cool

A Matter of Loaf and Death, the lastest Wallace and Gromit movie, due out on the BBC over Christmas has missed out on the Oscars.

The short film will however be eligible for an Oscar Nomination in 2010.

Previous Wallace and Gromit shorts The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave took home the Oscar for best animated short. Animator, Nic Park won, too, for his 2005 Wallace and Gromit feature, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. The wacky inventor and his long-suffering dog also landed an Oscar nomination for their first film together, A Grand Day Out.

The new film would have had to have been submitted to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by 1 October 2008 in order to be eligible for next year's Oscars.

A Matter of Loaf and Death sees Wallace - voiced as ever by veteran Last of the Summer Wine actor Peter Sallis - and his dog Gromit at the helm of an automated bakery, named Top Bun.

Their business is disrupted when Wallace falls in love with Piella Bakewell, the former star of a series of iconic bread commercials.

Meanwhile a mysterious "cereal killer" is targeting other bakers in the area, leading Gromit to fear his master's life may be in danger. Romance beckons for the plucky canine as well when he meets Fluffles, Piella's pretty pet poodle
