The Cutty Sark can now be fully restored thanks to a £3.3m donation from Sammy Ofer, an Israeli shipping tycoon.
Following a major fire in May 07 during a planned £35m conservation project, major fundraising efforts have been under way to secure the future of this great ship.
Shipping magnate Sammy Ofer's £3.3m will be added to the public's donations and an exceptional £10m grant from the Heritage Lottery Foundation to enable the restoration to be completed by 2010.
The restoration project will see the ship suspended 3m above the bottom of her dry berth with the space below transformed into a gallery, enabling visitors to see the shape of the ship's hull in its full glory.
