The 28-year-old Corkscrew at Alton Towers is to be demolished at the end of the season.
Costing 1.25m, the Corkscrew reaches speeds of 44mph (70 km/h) and was Europe's first double-looped rollercoaster. It has carried an estimated 43.5 million passengers since 1980.
The Corkscrew's last ride will be on 9th November 2008. Though Alton Towers closes on 2nd November for the winter, it will open specially on the 9th for the last day of the Corkscrew. The iconic ride will then be dismantled to make way for something bigger and better.
