The problems, delays and mistakes in this year's Sats shows no sign of being resolved.

Following on from our earlier news item on the delays to Sats for over one million 11 and 14 year olds, reports suggest that many schools are still without marks, and those that do have marked papers are seeing issues with unmarked and incorrectly marked scripts, whilst some test pupils have been incorrectly labelled absent.

According to the School Secretary Ed Balls, despite results being due two weeks ago, a staggering 20% of primary schools are still awaiting results and 25% of English results for 14 year olds are missing.

Assurances that the quality of marking by ETS, the US firm contracted by the Government to carry out the work, is at least as good as last year is doing nothing to reassure - and we would imagine does nothing for the credibility of last year's results!

What a sorry state of affairs when we expect more and more from our kids in schools and then make such appalling gaffes when marking their assessment papers for which they have worked so hard. Shouldn't 100% accuracy be the expectation?
