  • Re: Get our children reading more!

Hi Welshbybirth. I think you are totally right - just like TV, limiting play on computers and consoles is definitely a sensible thing to do. They are great, but variety is really important

  • Re: Get our children reading more!

Hi manicme Couldn't agree more about the importance of reading. Luckily our son (now 6) has always been fascinated by books from even before he could sit up. At two and three, he would quite happily flick through any books he could lay his hands on. He would love anyone reading to him and without prompting would recount what we had read to ...

  • Re: Daventry Country Park

Took a stroll around the lake at Daventry Country Park at the weekend - beautiful! Most of the lake is frozen at the moment and the clear, crisp winter air made for a stunning sunset as we walked around. The cafe was doing a brisk trade in hot drinks and hot snacks, whilst the large, well maintained playground provided added entertainment for ...

  • Re: Draycote Water Country Park

Draycote Water had been beautiful over the Christmas holidays. Great for walks and bike rides and with very little wind, we have been treated to some fantastic sunsets too. The cafe kiosk has been doing a roaring trade in hot snacks and hot drinks - very welcome in the cold, cold weather! A great time to get some fresh air and a bit of exercise ...

  • Herbert Art Gallery and Museum - what a fab place for families

Very impressed with the Herbert! I hadn't realised how much the recent revamp had improved it and how family-friendly is has become. The exhibitions are very well laid out and cleverly designed to appeal both to kids and adults. The Elements Gallery is particularly good.  The Herbert makes excellent use of many interactive and ...

  • Re: Ofstead reciprocal childcare ban to be reviewed

This is an absolutely mad ban! Reciprocal childcare between friends and colleagues is essential to tens of thousands of parents. Taken literally (which Ofstead looks to be doing at the moment), this daft law would also stop parents taking friends' kids home after school on a regular basis - something probably hundreds of thousands of us ...

  • Re: MMR safety confirmed by Autism study

You have to feel sorry for any parents whose child is affected by autism, but I really hope that this latest research helps convince more parents to make sure that their kids get the recommended MMR jab. The increasing cases of measles because of the lower takeup of MMR is really distressing.
